Our favorite tour was the Gourmet Walk through La Boqueria and the area nearby. We had a crazy tour guide, Oliver, who went on and on about Global Warming, the Crisis, and how tourism was ruining things for the locals. We also had our first run in with pickpockets trying to work our tour group, which is so obvious when you know what to look out for.
The streets in the Gothic section are very narrow...not too sure how the laundry ever dries. The umbrellas on the side of the building note that it was an umbrella shop. Dulcinea means "the sweetest thing ever"...also the name of Don Quixote's mistress. There are plenty of sweet shops and the local favorite is this pastry with pine nuts and lard. We tried it and are not huge fans, it must be an acquired taste. Also, they present trays of tapas and then you're charged by the number of toothpicks left on your plate.
The market had a fabulous display of fresh fruit, vegetables, and candy treats.
And plenty of fresh fish......
And plenty of ham...of course
And snacks....
We all agreed that we would LOVE to have this back home to do our weekly shopping....
