Day 5 - Ennis, Ireland

This morning we had breakfast "with" Mike Holmgren. He appears to be traveling with a tour group and is looking good, at least much thinner than last season. That was the best part of our breakfast....we just weren't feeling it...but we ate anyway. We still like our hotel, the Old Ground. The furniture might be older than the grounds. Plus there are lots of old people, like us.

Then we jumped in to our mighty chariot, finally getting in to the correct side...we're still not used to the opposite driving system here. What should have been a half hour trip, Dave took us on the scenic route which took us 3 hours. But we did see a whole lot of the Irish country side. Edie and Sabrina did take a little nap. All the while it was pouring down rain.

We arrived at our destination, the Cliffs of Moher. We're pretty sure this is an awesome place, but viewed through torrential downpour and fog, with soggy feet and pants, it loses some of the awesomeness. But the most amazing thing was the visitor's center! We had our best lunch there....delicious homemade pureed vegetable soup and homemade brown bread.

Then we toured through the Burren. Michael got a close up experience and wanted to test the water.

We came back and had an authentic fish and chips dinner at the pub with a Guinness, Sabrina had water.

Tomorrow we're off to the Best Western in Killarney!

If you look real close you can see Michael Neu's head sticking up as he climbed down to pee in the Galway Sea.
Michael walking along the Burren on his way to the sea to pee. The Burren is limestone area that was once the sea.
Michael, Sabrina, and Dave huddled under the Irish liquid sunshine over looking the Cliffs of Moher.
The Cliffs of Moher.

Michael peed outside???? I woulda never thought in a million years. Isnt he the one into the clean bathrooms? Really enjoying reading about your trip, kinda makes us feel like we are there, NOT! Hot and muggy here today, so you arent missing much.
Be safe....and do let us know who is ahead on the comment contest..inquiring minds need to know.

yeah! who's ahead???
I want to know too!

I really don't like vacationing in the rain...I suppose because it is Ireland could make it somewhat better but rain really puts a damper on things....I can remember going camping in the motorhome with the kids and if it rained.......we all wanted to kill each other. I hope that doesn't happen to the 4 of you....You need Michael for driving and edie for the blogging so take really good care of each other. Did Michael try sleeping upside down and backwards like I suggested? I'm telling you......they say it works.

Sea-Pee.........good one Edie.

Getting ready for company this weekend. Friends coming from LA. stocking the cupboards and the frig. so we don't have to do anything when they arrive. travel safe! Pray for sunshine and keep on bloggin! Love seeing the pics and reading everyday!

You do know that as the UK goes your having wonderful weather. Did you hint that you may have gotten lost? So Dave's GPS doesn't work outside the U.S. Keep having fun and stay dry (we are).

Hey Everyone!
If you are drinking Guinness you need to try an "Irish Car Bomb"... I am curious if it is the same thing there as it is here? Let me know :) Off to go for a run...Dad will be proud!
Love you!

Dear Megan,

Just checked on the Irish Car Bomb in the pub and it is a universal drink, costing 7 Euro or $10 USD. So, we all want to know.....how do you know about this? Is this something you learned at Chico State?

Love, all of us....you're in TROUBLE!

Edie, Matt is very jealous that you had breakfast with Mike Holmgren. He wants to know if you got his autograph! It sounds like you guys are having a good time, and remember to look right first when crossing the street! :)

I love Ennis! If you get up to Galway, you have to make sure to have fish and chips at McDonnagh's. The best I've ever had!

It's been a few years since I have had an Irish Car Bomb. You're supposed to drink it quick, though, fyi.
