Upon our return to mainland Rome....

We happened upon a student demonstration when we detoured to the Piazza Navona. The high school students are not happy because the new conservative government has axed 18,000 teachers that were added under the former liberal government (that ramped up spending and government services over a short period). Now there's not too much money. Sound familiar? It's all the same.

There was tear gas, Polizia in riot gear, Carbiniera, paddy wagons, bull horns...and students running every where....rampaging through the streets. Actually they looked like hormonal teens. Oh, and they are totally in to saggy pants here too.

We also met James, a scout for the Royal Canadien army on leave from Khandahar, Afghanistan....and an Obama supporter. He spent a great deal of time and effort explaining American politics to us. Why is everyone explaining American politics to Americans?
