Hot Springs, Arkansas

Okay, so I got on the borderline of bailing on the trip. It is so hot.....breaking all the records....105 or 115 with the heat index.....too hot to do ANYTHING and I'm on the back of a Harley with the sun beating down on me! So I'm forgiven for even thinking of renting an air conditioned car and following the gang?

The roads are beautiful....sweeping curves with great asphalt and green scenery. We even had some tall shady trees and views of water. That last 45 minutes riding in to town with the stop lights is what pushed me over the edge.

This is yet another dying town. We're not sure if it's the recession or just time passing it by. We think it could be the economy. When there's no money, no one goes on a vacation to a resort town. And this part of the country does not have the vibrancy of a large metropolitan area like home. As rough as it is in the Bay Area, this is just plain awful.

The people are really nice, helpful, and gracious. We did have a waitress with horrible teeth that fits all the stereotypes, but she was so wonderful that we just don't care about her teeth....although we did discuss it and I'm telling you about it now. We can understand them when they speak, but that accent is just something else...very high pitched and twangy. It doesn't sound, well, very educated. I can see why people assume they're stupid...but they are not.

We stayed at the Williams House which was clean, well located, and with plenty of room...something that you don't always get in a B&B. They had plenty of nice touches. We were able to walk to lunch and again to dinner. It was really funny when we were walking back from dinner. We shuffled back. We were all so physically depleted from the heat that we could barely lift our flip flops. It made a very funny sound as we shuffled the three blocks back to our Inn.
